A Moray man escaped from his car as it was engulfed in flames in a horror incident outside Elgin.
Police and fire crews were called to the A96, near the Alves railway bridge, after Scott Gill’s dark blue Renault “blew up” inexplicably as he made his way along the road.
Mr Gill, 27, from Elgin, was travelling alone at the time of the incident.
He said: “I escaped just as the flames engulfed the whole car.”
Mr Gill, who works as a landscape gardener with Moray Council, said he was lucky not to have been seriously injured.
A fire and rescue service spokeswoman said the vehicle was “well alight” when a crew from Elgin station arrived.
A police spokesman said: “The fire service alerted us to the fact there was a car on fire on the A96, but we couldn’t comment on whether it exploded or not.
“There were no injuries reported, and we simply attended to assist with traffic management.”
The burned out car was collected by Elgin’s Sheriffmill motor company at 7.30pm on Sunday night.
