Today the Dons announced plans to move away from their historic Pittodrie home to a new home near Westhill in Aberdeen.
The Press and Journal can today reveal details of the Dons’ plans to flit eight miles to a greenfield site at Kingsford.
Here are all the key things you need to know about the move. Just click on each for more details.
1) Artist impressions and full details
The new ground – complete with a purpose-built training complex – would be right beside the A944 Aberdeen-Westhill road and the city’s under-construction bypass.
And the Reds could be playing there within three years in front of crowds of up to 19,000 – and boosting the local economy to the tune of £20million.
2) How much is this worth to the north-east economy?
Research by a leading north-east business body has revealed the revitalised Dons in a new stadium could deliver a £20million annual boost to the region.
A report by Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce examined the economic impact of the club on the area.
3) Pittodrie: A look back at the stadium’s history
Pittodrie has been the home of football in Aberdeen for nearly 120 years – and the site of numerous “firsts” for the British game over the decades.
It earned it’s unique Gaelic title after being built on the site of the police stables in 1899.
It would be a number of years, however, before the Dons that Aberdonians and fans from all over the north-east have come to know would take up residence at the ground.
4) What the business community think
Russell Borthwick, chief executive of Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce has his say…
5) Why it’s a game changer for the club and city
The chairman of Aberdeen Football Club’s community trust has hailed the potential new training facilities as “game changing” for the club and city.
Duncan Skinner said last night that locating the new base so close to the planned stadium was “almost unique” and could help develop future talent for the team.
