The Scottish Fire & Rescue Service said around 10 areas surrounding the Tain area were badly affected by severe downpours. Manse Street at Tain was one area hit by the flash floods, with several properties affected by rising water levels. A spokeswoman for the fire service said crews are helping pump out water from homes, and are also assisting the local authority source sand bags. A lightning strike also hit Latheronwheel, Caithness.
