Police last night confirmed that the search for missing Fraserburgh man Shaun Ritchie will continue.
A massive search operation has now been ongoing for 12 days, the 20-year-old having last been seen on Friday, October 31.
A police spokeswoman said last night that there was still no breakthrough in the case. “The search is ongoing and there is no update.”
Marine and dive teams have also been searching nearby waterways in the Strichen area for the missing man.
A CCTV image pulled from a Fraserburgh grocery store camera was released by police earlier this week in the hope someone may have remembered seeing him in the area.
The image, taken on the day Mr Ritchie went missing, shows him wearing dark grey skinny jeans, a grey hooded top and brown shoes.
Some of the clothes in the image were found by police and the CID team involved with the case, who have ruled out criminal activity at this time, believe he may have developed hypothermia and removed the recovered items of clothing when disorientated.
But police would not disclose from which store the CCTV image had been taken from.
The spokeswoman added: “We’re not providing that information. The purpose of providing the image was just to show the clothes he was wearing on the day he went missing.”
Police have previously said they are becoming “increasingly concerned” for Mr Ritchie’s safety.
Speaking earlier this week, community policing inspector Alan Brown said: “Significant resources have been involved in the search for Shaun with extensive searches in open areas, woodland and waterways in a bid to trace him and during the course of the inquiry, items of his clothing have been recovered.
“As time passes we are increasingly concerned for Shaun’s safety, we appeal for anyone who knows the whereabouts of Shaun or has any information that could assist us with our inquiries to contact Police Scotland on 101.”
Efforts to find Mr Ritchie have so far used more than 200 specialist search officers to comb the countryside near Strichen.
The operation, which has involved a police helicopter, four mountain rescue teams and the dive and marine unit, has additionally involved almost 1,000 man-hours of search work in the Greenburn area.
Meanwhile, inquiries are continuing into the whereabouts of a missing woman, originally from the Peterhead area.
Lorraine McRae, who now lives in Montrose, was last seen November 3, at the town’s station.
