A busy Moray road was closed for nearly four hours this morning due to a gas leak.
The A96 between Forres and Nairn was shut in both directions from 3.15am and opened at 6.50am.
Emergency services were called to the scene near Balmakeith shortly around 3.30am.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “We were contacted by trunk roads agency Bear Scotland soon after 3.30am today to report the incident at Forres Road and Bridge Street in Nairn.
“Bear Scotland said there was an issue with a gas main in that they were doing some work on the road and they believed that gas was coming from beneath the road.
A spokeswoman for Scottish Fire and Rescue said: “We received a call for assistance at 3.35am”
“However when we arrived we were not needed.”
