Police have arrested England footballer Adam Johnson on suspicion of having sex with a 14-year-old girl.
The Sun report that the Sunderland player’s £1.85million mansion was raided by police this morning around 9.15am where they also reportedly discovered a loaded gun.
A spokeswoman for Durham Police said: ‘A 27-year-old man was arrested earlier today on suspicion of sexual activity with a girl under 16.
‘He remains in police custody and is helping officers with their inquiries.’
It is believed Johnson legally owned the firearm the police discovered.
Sunderland have announced that Johnson has been suspended by the club pending the outcome of a police investigation
Born in Sunderland, the winger has represented his country 12 times and also played for Middlesbrough and Manchester City.
