Aberdeen will appeal the red card shown to winger Jonny Hayes in yesterday’s 2-1 win over Celtic.
The Irishman was shown a straight red card in the 71st minute for a challenge on Celtic right back Mikael Lustig.
The teams were tied 1-1 at the time, however, despite the sending off the Dons went on to win 2-1, courtesy of Paul Quinn’s 86th minute winner.
Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes hopes Thomson will agree his decision to send off Hayes was harsh once he views a replay of the incident.
The Dons manager said: “I accept the speed of the tackle will have played a big part in the referee’s decision but I thought it was harsh. It’s not a two-footed challenge and he has actually won the ball with his left foot.
“From where we were it looked as if he (Thomson) was too quick to flash the red. I think if he sees it again he might see it the way I see it.”
As a result of the appeal, Hayes will now be available for the Dons’ game against Hamilton Accies on Tuesday night.
