Caley Thistle remain joint-top of the Premiership, with a thoroughly deserved 3-1 win against Motherwell at the Caledonian Stadium.
Goals from Billy McKay, Marley Watkins and Josh Meekings saw Inverness triumph, with Henrik Ojamaa netting with Well’s only shot on target all match.
Inverness manager John Hughes made just one change from the side that defeated Hamilton Accies 4-2 in their last game a fortnight ago, with Ryan Christie returning to the side following his midweek appearance for Scotland under-21s in the 1-1 draw against Switzerland.
He replaced Ross Draper, who accumulated enough bookings to incur a one match suspension.
The game got off to a quiet start, with Greg Tansey coming close when his 30 yard free-kick whistled just past the post.
However, the hosts took the lead on 29 minutes, with David Raven’s defence-splitting pass releasing McKay, who showed he is back amongst the goals with a precise low finish past Dan Twardzik.
That lead lasted only 90 seconds however, with Motherwell responding immediately.
Forward John Sutton gained control of the ball in the penalty box, before setting up Ojamaa to fire high past Dean Brill from 10 yards.
However the Caley Jags came closest to adding further to the scoreline, with Christie and Tansey both forcing saves from Twardzik.
In the second-half it was one way traffic, with Gary Warren poking wide following a surge upfield, however McKay twice came close to adding to his tally. Firstly he rounded the keeper, but blazed his shot over, before attempting to curl into the top corner moments later but failing to keep his shot down.
However, Inverness made a deserved breakthrough on 71 minutes, when Graeme Shinnie’s delivery from the left was nodded into the far corner by Watkins.
Caley Thistle put the game beyond any doubt with a third goal seven minutes, when Tansey’s corner was smashed home at the far post by Meekings.
The outstanding Watkins twice came close in the latter stages, cracking a shot off the bar from five yards before heading off the outside of the post, however Caley Thistle held out for a thoroughly comfortable win.
