TV viewers have tipped former detective constable Maggie Oliver to win this year’s Celebrity Big Brother following the 2018 series launch.
The ex-officer, who resigned after 16 years with the police following its handling of the Rochdale sex abuse scandal, was one of the first housemates to join the Channel 5 reality show during its live opening on Tuesday night.
Her involvement in the case saw her encourage young victims to step forward to contact police about their ordeals. She was later portrayed by actress Lesley Sharp in the BBC dramatisation Three Girls.
As the show marked the centenary of women winning the right to vote in the UK with an all-female initial line-up, viewers took to Twitter to nominate her to win the whole programme.
One commented: “Maggie Oliver to Win Celebrity Big Brother! She has actually done something amazing and so much respect for her!”
“She is a SUPER HERO and i pray to god she wins CELEBRITY BIG BROTHER 2018,” wrote another. “She deserves all the luck and fortune she can get. This lady living breathing Angel. GOOD LUCK MAGGIE we are all behind you.”
One commented: “Wishing Maggie the best of luck in the all-female Celebrity Big Brother house! #CBBMAGGIE #yearofthewomen.”
Another posted: “Wow! Maggie Oliver simply has to win Celebrity Big Brother she is such an amazing woman who fought against so much to get justice. What a woman!”
Hoping that the 62-year-old’s background will bring an interesting dynamic to debate in the house, one viewer responded: “I like Maggie. This could be like when Big Brother first started. When there was genuine interesting conversation as well as the other stuff. #cbb.”
