Cardi B has hit back at critics who said she should stay out of politics after a video of her berating Donald Trump went viral.
The rapper posted to Instagram on Wednesday, criticising the president amid a government shutdown that has left hundreds of thousands of federal workers without pay.
Mr Trump is embroiled in a row with the Democrats over funding for his proposed wall along the US-Mexico border.
In a post shared with her near 40 million Instagram followers on Thursday, Cardi B hit back at critics suggesting she should stick to music and said: “Soo many people under my comments talking about I shouldn’t talk politics ,I don’t know what I’m talking about , I’m dumb !
“Well I know alittle something something..I know 800,000 federal government workers won’t be getting paid till the shutdown is over and government assistants program are shutdown as well as in NO WELFARE , NO WIC,SECTION 8
“PAY ATTENTION !!! This can go on for months and it will affect our homes and Country.”
Alongside a clip of her outburst being discussed on a US news programme, she added, “I know it’s a little boring to watch the news” but “it won’t kill ya” to follow the Instagram accounts of “people that talk about what’s going on in our community”.
Earlier in the week she said the US “is in a hellhole right now all for a f****** wall”.
The shutdown is already the longest ever and entered its 27th day on Thursday. The impasse is having a profound impact on the US, costing the economy billions of dollars.
The Bronx-born Cardi B, real name Belcalis Almanzar, shot to fame last year following the release of her critically acclaimed debut album Invasion Of Privacy.
She is nominated for five awards at next months Grammys, including song and album of the year.
