Burlesque star Dita Von Teese has said she has got her “own set of Me Toos”.
The model and designer, who is releasing her debut album, compared sexual predators to people who enjoy big-game hunting, saying: “This is about degrading people and seeing what they can do.”
She told GQ.co.uk: “I’ve got my own set of ‘Me Toos’, but, honestly, I’m not going to out the 75-year-old TV talk-show host who grabbed my butt, because I don’t care about that. I thought it was funny.
“To me, personally, I don’t care about that. But I’m glad that people who have genuinely been assaulted or backed into a corner are outing the men who did that to them.
“It’s a good conversation to have. I think it’s really interesting to talk to the good men of the world who can’t wrap their head around it or understand it.
“The ones who are like ‘I would never grab somebody’.”
“What you have to understand is this is not about sex or whether you can get girls. This is about degrading people and seeing what they can do.
“It’s like big-game hunting. Those guys are a little bit like the guys that want to shoot elephants and tigers.
“It’s not about sex, it’s not that they’re not getting enough action so they have to force themselves on women, it’s a different story.”
Asked if she thinks things are changing, she said: “Slowly. I stepped away from a deal recently because I was not willing to play this game of being some guy’s little girlfriend.
“He was a show producer/nightclub owner. No, I’m not going to go to dinner with you at eight o’clock on a Friday or Saturday. This is business.
“I just thought I don’t need this shit. I can do this the clean way. I’ve never been willing to play that game. I’ve never been somebody who does well with dating rich guys. I’ve always made my own way.”
