Sam Rockwell dedicated his supporting actor award to the late Alan Rickman as he accepted the Bafta gong.
The Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri actor beat the likes of Paddington 2’s Hugh Grant and Christopher Plummer, who replaced Kevin Spacey in a quick re-filming of All The Money In The World after Spacey was hit with allegations of sexual misconduct.
Rockwell thanked his wife and cast members, and wrapped up his speech by telling the audience: “I’m very lucky to be here tonight, thank you to the British Academy, this is for my pal Alan Rickman, I’ll see you at the bar!”
Black Panther star Lupita Nyong’o presented the award.
Coming-of-age drama Call Me By Your Name took the adapted screenplay award, while Martin McDonagh’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri was also named outstanding British film.
Get Out star Daniel Kaluuya won the EE Rising Star award, as voted for by the public.
Host Joanna Lumley opened up this year’s ceremony by acknowledging the “determination to eradicate the abuse of women the world over” of the many stars who wore black in solidarity with the Time’s Up and #MeToo campaigns.
