Coronation Street viewers were “heartbroken” for David Platt as they watched him deal with the aftermath of his horrifying rape in dramatic scenes in the soap.
David (Jack P Shepherd) was assaulted by Josh Tucker (Ryan Clayton) in the ITV programme last week, after having his drink spiked.
Wednesday night’s instalment saw a traumatised David apparently think about attacking Josh when they bumped into each other at Harry’s birthday party.
Many viewers posted messages on social media saying they were moved by the scenes, and praising the soap for its delicate handling of such a sensitive subject.
“My heart is actually breaking for David, and @itvcorrie should be proud for covering such a raw, shadowed storyline,” one fan posted on Twitter.
“Watching David is so heartbreaking and upsetting,” said another.
One viewer tweeted: “Cracking effort #Corrie on raising awareness of such a taboo subject.”
As David struggled to control his emotions he decides to leave for Liverpool to see his father Martin.
Some viewers were pleased he was putting some distance between him and Josh.
But others are hoping to see David show off his dark side once again, by seeking revenge.
One fan said on Twitter: “Can’t wait for David to get revenge on Josh, you know its gonna be epic!”
“How David doesn’t just beat the wotsit out of him no one knows, But David Platt always gets his revenge so watch out!” said another.
Coronation Street continues on ITV.
