Chris Evans confirmed he has called his twins Boo and Walt, as he told their mother “you’re on the air, babe” during his Radio 2 breakfast show.
Evans and wife Natasha Shishmanian, parents to Noah, nine, and Eli, six, welcomed a boy and a girl on Wednesday evening.
Back to work on Friday morning, Evans admitted the couple had not got much sleep because they had gone out for a “little bit of wetting the babies’ heads”.
And he said: “It’s a good job we’ve got guests on after eight o’clock, otherwise I’d just talk about babies all day today.”
“I’m sorry, I can’t help it. I can only apologise,” he joked.
He added: “Right now, we’re talking about babies. Boo and Walt,” adding that the names were not short for anything.
Evans said he had slept on the sofa and thinks he might be there for some time yet, but said the family were “massively over-excited”.
“Mum doing very well, babies are splendid, sparkling. We are beyond blessed,” he told his listeners.
Later his wife was on the phone, saying: “Hi baby!”
Evans replied: “You’re on the air babe, is that OK?”
“Yeah great!” she said.
Asked how she was, she replied: “Everything’s more than OK. I have four children in my bed right now.”
She said that she would not be going into the studio.
“The kids are desperate for me to take them to school and they want to show them (the twins) off to all their friends.”
Evans asked Shishmanian to introduce a segment on the show, and joked: “As if she hasn’t got enough on her plate!”
He said of having twins: “No wonder twins end up so close for the rest of their life. Already, if one of them sort of begins crying and you place the other one next to the one that’s thinking about crying it stops.
“Boo’s already comforting Walt and Walt’s already comforting Boo… If one’s feeding, the one that isn’t feeding looks around for their mate.”
