Frozen fans hoping for a live action version of the animated hit might be left disappointed after the film’s producer said “there haven’t been any discussions” about retelling the story on the big screen.
Popular Disney animations that have recently received the live action treatment include Beauty And The Beast, Aladdin and The Jungle Book, while a new version of The Lion King used state-of-the-art technology to create a photo-realistic remake.
However, producer Peter Del Vecho said there is no Frozen version in the pipeline, telling the PA news agency: “I have learned never to say that something won’t happen or is impossible because you never know, but I can say there haven’t been any discussions about that and that right now these characters live in our animation world and that is where they feel alive and real to us.”
A live musical of the show has already been a hit on Broadway and will open at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London in 2020.
Del Vecho also said the film’s creators were taken aback when the song Let It Go from the first movie became a juggernaut and he hopes the upcoming sequel will feature songs that resonate as much with audiences.
He said: “We didn’t know that Let It Go would be the hit song that it became, but what we do know was it was an important moment in the story for her (Elsa, voice by Idina Menzel) to express that.
“So the same thing happens here, where you have moments in the story where the character feels they need to express.
“Into The Unknown is a song that is really driven by the inner thoughts of Elsa, hearing this voice and ‘Do I go or do I not go?’
“She has a choice to make and clearly by the end of the song makes that choice to go into the unknown but going into the unknown can be scary but it does set up the journey, so all the songs hopefully serve a similar purpose.”
He added that the film-makers are aware of the expectations
Frozen 2 will be released in UK cinemas on November 22.
