Brad Pitt joked it was time to update his online dating profile as he delivered a memorable acceptance speech at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
The star won outstanding supporting actor for his portrayal of an ageing stuntman in Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood, Quentin Tarantino’s love letter to 1969 Los Angeles.
Pitt took to the stage inside the Shrine Auditorium and said: “I’ve got to add this to my Tinder profile.”
He paid tribute to his fellow actors, who he called “my brothers, my sisters” before moving on to his Once Upon A Time co-stars.
Pitt sparked hilarity among the star-studded audience when he said: “Leo, Margot Robbie, Margot Robbie’s feet. Margaret Qualley’s feet, Dakota Fanning’s feet.
“Seriously, Quentin has separated more women from their shoes than the TSA.”
The latter was a reference to Tarantino’s habit of featuring women’s feet in his films.
Pitt, who divorced ex-wife Angelina Jolie last year, also joked about his role as stuntman Cliff Booth in Once Upon A Time, saying: “It was a difficult part, a guy who takes his shirt off, gets high and doesn’t get on with his wife. It was a big stretch, big.”
Speaking to reporters backstage following his win, Pitt said he draws on his personal life “for everything” when working.
“It’s got to be personal,” he said. “You’ve got to make it personal or it’s not grounded, it doesn’t work. I make everything personal, to a fault.”
Asked how the journey from Once Upon A Time’s premiere at the Cannes film festival in May to his SAG win had been, Pitt said: “It’s a good bunch of people. It’s Quentin, it’s Leo, it’s Margot, we have a laugh along the way. It’s not heavy subject matter, we’re not having to crack the atom or anything.
“It’s been really joyful, like the filming itself.”
Pitt, 56, also singled out DiCaprio for praise.
“He’s so committed,” he said.
“Within a scene, you can play a scene at level one or at 11, he’s always pushing for the edge.
“He’s not protecting himself in any way. He’s literally throwing himself out there and he goes all the way.”
Following his SAG win, Pitt is now red-hot favourite to triumph at the Oscars.
He has already won a Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Award this year.
