Ricky Gervais has given fans a taste of the jokes he would have used if he had been hosting the Oscars.
The actor and comedian, known for his sharp jibes when hosting the Golden Globes, was asked on Twitter what he would say if he was presiding over the film awards bash on Sunday.
He suggested he would poke fun at the “inspirational speeches”.
Sharing his joke, he replied: “I can’t wait to hear all your inspirational speeches about equality, and it’s great that the 3 hours you’re here tonight is the only time your badly paid migrant house staff will get some time off to sleep this week.
“It’s great to see such diversity in the room tonight. Rich sex pests of all shapes and sizes,” he added.
Gervais, 58, also used Oscars night to urge US viewers to watch his show After Life.
He tweeted: “America! Binge-watch #AfterLife on @Netflix tonight.
“It’s about a man who realises that humanity is a disgusting, narcissistic plague, and so becomes angry & depressed and loses the will to live.
“Or watch The Oscars instead and actually experience those feelings first hand.”
Gervais hosted the Globes from 2010 to 2012 and in 2015, then returned to do it again this year.
Sunday night’s Oscars will not have a host for the second year in a row.
