Craig David could score his third number one album if he manages to knock the soundtrack for The Greatest Showman off the top spot this week.
The singer’s seventh studio album, The Time Is Now, is hot on the heels of the musical film collection in second place at the halfway stage of the charts week, the Official Charts Company has said.
David’s previous two chart-toppers were his debut album Born To Do It in 2000, and his comeback record Following My Intuition in 2016.

His single I Know You, a collaboration with Bastille, has also jumped five places to number five on the singles chart following the release of the album.
However, if The Greatest Showman soundtrack – which features vocals from the film’s stars Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, Zac Efron and Zendaya – retains its position, it will enjoy a fourth week at the chart summit.
Ed Sheeran’s previous number one album Divide is currently at number three ahead of blues and soul duo Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa, whose new album Black Coffee is in fourth place.
Heavy metal rockers Machine Head’s new effort Catharsis is set to end the week at number five.
Over on the Official Singles Chart, Canadian rapper Drake looks likely to hold on to the number one spot for the second week running with God’s Plan.
Last week he shot straight to the top of the charts after releasing his new Scary Hours EP, leapfrogging the competition as the track was streamed 6.5 million times in a week.
South London rapper Ramz is still at number two with his breakthrough hit Barking, ahead of Eminem’s River, featuring Sheeran, at number three.
Norwegian singer Sigrid, who won the BBC Music Sound Of 2018 prize, is at number four at the midway stage of the chart week with Strangers.
