Neil Young confirmed his marriage to Daryl Hannah as he urged fans to vote in the upcoming US midterm elections.
The revered musician, who enjoyed success with the supergroup Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, released the official live video of the band’s song Ohio on his website.
Written in 1970, Ohio is a protest song in reaction to the Kent State shootings which saw four unarmed anti-war students shot dead by members of the Ohio National Guard.
Along with the music video, Young, 72, wrote a blog post calling for stricter gun controls in the wake of 11 worshippers being gunned down at a synagogue in Pittsburgh on Saturday.
Young also confirmed reports of his marriage to Blade Runner actress Hannah in the post.
He said: “Today we see what we have become. With no real laws protecting us from guns, and with politicians supporting the NRA because the NRA supports them, we are not well represented.
“Today’s students are brave, demanding change in violent times. We stand with them. They are us. We are them. This has been going on for far too long. My wife Daryl and I put this video together for you to reflect on.”
Canadian musician Young finished the post by urging fans to vote in the midterm elections on November 6.
He said: “Support the students. Support our children. They want protection. Not more guns. Give us common sense gun laws that protect our people, in schools, in places of worship, in the workplace and on the streets. VOTE.”
Young and Hannah, 57, have reportedly been in a relationship since 2014. They are said to have tied the knot in California in August this year.
