Natalie Imbruglia is pregnant with her first child at the age of 44 with the help of IVF and a sperm donor.
The singer-songwriter said that she has wanted to be a mother for a “very long time” as she shared a picture of herself and her baby bump on social media.
Imbruglia shared her news in a post on Instagram, in which she revealed she has signed a new record deal with BMG.
Along with a picture of herself with her team, she wrote: “I have been busy writing for the past year and a half and can’t wait to share these new songs with you all!!!!”
Referencing the second photo in the post, in which she cradles her bump, she said: “And as you can see from the pic… there is another announcement… (no I haven’t swallowed a watermelon).
“I’m expecting my first child this Autumn.
“For those of you that know me, this has been something I have wanted for a very long time and I’m blessed that this is possible with the help of IVF and a sperm donor – I won’t be saying anything more on that publicly.”
She added: “I’m so excited about this next adventure… a new album and I’m going to be a mum!”
The musician and actress, known for starring in Australian soap Neighbours in the 1990s and for hit songs such as Torn, was congratulated by TV presenter Caroline Flack, who wrote in the comments: “Awwwww babe that’s gorgeous and amazing … loads of love.”
Spice Girls star Mel C wrote: “Congratulations my love! Wonderful news all round.
“You’re gonna be an AMAZING Mummy and you’re already an AMAZING recording artist. Love ya.”
Double Brit Award-winner Imbruglia has previously said that she wanted to become a mother, whether she was in a relationship or not.
In 2015 she told the Evening Standard that she would look into “other options” to start a family if she did not find a partner.
Imbruglia was married to Australian rocker Daniel Johns for five years until 2008.
