Sam Smith and Demi Lovato go for gold in the Olympics-inspired video for their new song I’m Ready.
The pop stars teamed up for the track, which will appear on Smith’s forthcoming album when it is released after being delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
I’m Ready is an upbeat song with Smith and Lovato saying they are looking for love and listing what they want in a new partner.
The video features the pair competing in a series of Olympic-style events, including wrestling and synchronised swimming, before standing on a podium with gold medals around their necks.
In a livestream to mark I’m Ready’s release, Smith and Lovato discussed life in quarantine, with Smith confessing to sometimes feeling “guilt” over not singing enough.
“Sometimes I forget it’s something I actually love to do just for fun and I fall out of love with it sometimes,” Smith said.
Lovato agreed, saying she can become “jaded” with singing and prefer to spend down time binge-watching films and TV series.
Smith’s album was originally set for a May 1 release but was delayed due to the pandemic. The title, To Die For, has also been changed, with Smith saying it “doesn’t feel right” amid the Covid-19 outbreak.
Smith had earlier claimed to have “definitely” had coronavirus – including all Covid-19 symptoms – before the UK went into lockdown, despite admitting to not being tested for the illness.
“I didn’t get tested but I know I have it, 100% have it,” Smith told Zane Lowe on Apple Music. “Everything I’ve read completely pointed to that.”
“As soon as I had it, my sister, five days after me, started getting the same symptoms.”
Smith, who has recovered from the illness, is isolating at home in London. One of the 27-year-old’s two sisters is staying with the singer while they wait for the worst of the pandemic to pass.
Lovato and Smith also discussed the coronavirus outbreak’s impact on their creative process.
“Music has taken a whole different shape, actually,” Smith said. “It really has. It’s really beautiful. It’s a really interesting time. I have written a bit the last few weeks, and it’s weird what comes out. It’s going to be a weird time.”
