Mandy Moore has responded to ex-husband Ryan Adams’ apology over her abuse allegations, saying she found it “curious” he chose to do it publicly rather than privately.
Moore and six other women came forward in February last year, alleging the singer-songwriter had been guilty of manipulating and controlling behaviour.
At the time, a lawyer for Adams denied the allegations of abuse.
However, has has now written a lengthy essay for the Daily Mail, apologising for his behaviour.
“There are no words to express how bad I feel about the ways I’ve mistreated people through my life and career,” the 45-year-old wrote.
“All I can say is that I’m sorry,” said Moore, 36, who was married to Adams from 2009 to 2016.
She has now responded to the apology and revealed her former husband had not been in touch.
During an appearance on the US TV show Today, she said: “It’s challenging because I feel like in many ways I’ve said all I want to say about him and that situation, but I find it curious that someone would make a public apology but not do it privately.
“I am speaking for myself, but I have not heard from him, and I’m not looking for an apology necessarily, but I do find it curious that someone would do an interview about it without actually making amends privately.”
In his apology, Adams, who has worked with stars including Sir Elton John, Willie Nelson and Fall Out Boy, said he has sought professional help in an attempt to get sober.
He said: “This period of isolation and reflection made me realise that I needed to make significant changes in my life.”
Moore, who married the singer Taylor Goldsmith in 2018, had described her relationship with Adams as “untenable”.
Speaking on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, she said: “I had no sense of self.
“I felt like I was drowning.
“It was so untenable and unsustainable and it was so lonely.
“I was so sad. I was lonely with him.”
Adams is an acclaimed and prolific musician.
Following the allegations of abuse, the planned release of his album Big Colours was cancelled.
He has not released a new album since.
