Emmerdale stars Charley Webb and Matthew Wolfenden tied the knot after tricking their guests by inviting them to a birthday party.
Webb, who started dating Wolfenden in 2007 after they met on the set of the ITV serial drama, told OK! magazine that the surprise wedding was “the best moment of my life”.
The couple had invited 100 guests to Ripley Castle near Harrogate on February 10, but led them to believe they were attending Webb’s 30th birthday bash.
However, upon their arrival, they quickly learned that the duo were to be walking down the aisle and that they had to settle into official roles.
Former Hollyoaks star Jamie Lomas, Webb’s brother, gave her away, while Emmerdale actress Lucy Pargeter acted as one of the bridesmaids.
Webb, who plays Debbie Dingle in Emmerdale, said: “That moment when we announced what we were doing and seeing everybody’s reaction is the best moment of my life.”
Wolfenden, who plays David Metcalfe, added: “We couldn’t have had a better response. People just screamed for about ten minutes!
“It’s funny to think that our guests thought they were coming to Charley’s 30th party – then we told them it was our wedding!”
Webb said: “This way we got to do it totally the way we wanted – it wasn’t traditional, we didn’t have a sit-down meal and there weren’t loads of speeches. Someone once told me their friend had a surprise wedding and it stuck in my mind.”
The couple, who have two sons called Bowie and Buster, became engaged in 2009.
Webb said they are thinking about having more children, but that they are “not putting too much pressure” on themselves.
