Maya Jama has dismissed rumours she is poised to take part in Strictly Come Dancing but confirmed she was asked to take part.
The presenter had been one of the names thought to be in the running to take part in the BBC’s hit dance show.
She told ITV’s GMB: “I’m not on Strictly. I don’t think now is the right time, maybe later in life.”
Asked if she had been asked to take part, she said: “I don’t know if you’re allowed to say that stuff.”
When presenter Ben Shephard said she was and confirmed he had also been asked, Jama confirmed she had been approached, saying: “Yeah, but not for now.
“I think I would want to let people know who I am a bit more. I don’t want to be that one that everyone is like, ‘Who’s that?’”
Other stars tipped to be donning their dancing shoes for the show this year include BBC newsreader Kate Silverton, Pussycat Dolls singer Ashley Roberts, radio host Vick Hope and Steps star Faye Tozer.
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star Scarlett Moffatt has also been rumoured to be taking part in the show,
Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley was at one point thought to be in the running but she shot down reports on Twitter, writing: “Guys- I’m not doing @bbcstrictly – I ADORE the show. And maybe one day!
“But to put an end to constant rumours – I’m not involved this year. But as always can’t wait to watch it!! My total fave!!”
Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One in the autumn.
