Former face of The Great British Bake Off Sue Perkins has weighed into the Brexit debate following the defeat of Theresa May’s deal in the House of Commons.
MPs voted down the negotiated deal with the European Union 432 to 202 today, and Perkins has criticised May’s approach to Brexit.
The comedian and presenter has called the political ramifications of leaving the EU a “crisis” which May has wasted time in not properly addressing.
Taking to Twitter, Perkins said: “History will record that [it] took Theresa May two years, billions of pounds in wasted revenue, and a historic Commons defeat before she even considered reaching out across the House and party lines on this, the greatest crisis of our generation.”
She added in her political intervention: “I believe that cross party consensus could have been achieved over the last two years.
“It is a disgrace the way that Scotland for example, has been treated by this process – as if the wishes of their country were not worthy of consideration.”
Perkins now presents comedy panel show Insert Name Here.
