The actor said he would be departing the ITV show later in 2019 after four years in the role of Robert Preston. Gemmill assured fans there would still be “shenanigans” in upcoming storylines, but his time on the soap was coming to an end. The actor has been in the soap since 2015, playing the husband of Tracy Barlow. Folks, I just wanted to let you know that the time has come for me to hang up the chef’s gear and head for pastures new. Welsh international rugby union referee Nigel Owens was among the fans wishing the actor luck. He wrote: “Best of wishes for the future but very sorry to hear your leaving the street.”
