Jobseeking offshore workers being discriminated against, claims MSP

Former offshore workers are being turned down for jobs outside the struggling industry due to their previous lifestyle, according to a north-east MSP.

Gillian Martin said a number of ex-oil and gas employees in her Aberdeenshire East constituency have been in contact after being repeatedly rejected for positions.

Several of the rejected parties claim they were explicitly told that their connection to the North Sea industry and the high-flying wages that died along with $100 oil in 2014 were to blame.
