Marcus Brigstocke will host the SCDI's annual Highlands and Islands Dinner and Business Excellence Awards in Inverness in September.

A popular comedian, actor and satirist, who once worked on an oil rig moored in the Cromarty Firth, is to be the star turn at a leading business awards event in Inverness.

Marcus Brigstocke will entertain hundreds of regional business leaders at the annual Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI) Highlands and Islands Dinner and Business Excellence Awards in September.

The English entertainer has worked extensively in stand-up comedy, television and radio and his brief North Sea experience has featured in his routines.  He is particularly associated with the 6.30pm comedy slot on BBC Radio 4, where the latest series of his Brig Society shows is due to start in the autumn.

Entries for this years’ business excellence awards opened yesterday.  Accolades will be presented at the dinner in the following categories:  international business; marine business; research and innovation; outstanding business ambassador; environmental sustainability; people development; and outstanding business achievement.

Fraser Grieve, SCDI’s Highlands and Islands Director said the organisers wanted to see “businesses and organisations of all shapes and sizes and from every sector” entering.

He added:  “We are fortunate to have some exceptional companies based in, and working across the Highlands and Islands and these awards are a way of recognising the talents and achievement of some of our greatest successes over the past year.”

The closing date for entries is Tuesday, August 1.
