Langstane Housing Association (LHA) has partnered up with three other organisations to help tenants through the cost-of-living and energy crises.
It comes after the north-east housing association was awarded £61,000 to support people struggling with spiralling energy costs.
LHA will work with energy savings advice charity Scarf to distribute the money.
The housing association, which has thousands of tenants in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray, previously told The Press and Journal 104 clients had asked their energy supplier to cut off their gas .
Its funding will pay for fuel vouchers and advice, including drop-in sessions and home visits to tenants.
Support for tenants
In addition to services offered through Scarf, Langstane has teamed up with AberNecessities to support disadvantaged families in the area.
AberNecessities provides families with basic necessities so “no child should go without”.
Danielle Flecher-Horn, the Aberdeen-based charity’s founder, said: “We operate on a referral basis, accepting applications from our network of brilliant professionals across the health, social care and education systems.
“We know the professionals are best placed to meet the needs and provide the emotional support to the families we support, while we provide the physical items.
“Our referral system allows us to distribute items fairly and efficiently to families who need them most.”
LHA is also currently in discussions with foodbank charity Cfine about a referral process for its customers to make sure they can access not only food but the other services Cfine offers.
Cfine is a delivery partner for food distribution charity FareShare Scotland in seven council areas across the north.
It supplies more than 300 charity and community groups with surplus and donated food.
‘Vital’ combined work
LHA chief executive Helen Gauld said: “We are truly delighted to be able to join forces with three very well-respected organisations in the north-east.
“It is vital our combined services work towards helping those who are most vulnerable due to the current cost-of-living and energy crises.
“Of the families living in our homes, 32% are in arrears of more than one month and many of these families will require support from Scarf, AberNecessities and Cfine to avoid crisis this winter.
“On top of this we have a number of other customers who are already in arrears and feeling the pressure of this challenging economic climate.
“We want to create new ways to help our customers and communities with the things that matter to them most.
“These new partnerships are the first step in achieving this.”
