An island firm has been awarded a £2.7m contract to develop eight new business units at Broadford Industrial Estate on the Isle of Skye.
Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) selected R K Joinery (Skye) for the development following a public tendering process.
The new units have been designed by Threesixty Architecture to provide a range of internal options while air-source heat pumps will also feature.
The project forms part of wider investment by the agency to create flexible workspaces in rural locations around the region.
Broadford was selected as the initial development based on existing level of interest.
HIE area manager for Lochaber, Skye and Wester Ross Alastair Nicolson said: “There’s a lot of interest in commercial premises on the island, from both local firms looking to expand and from companies looking to create a base on Skye.
Units to meet commercial and office space needs
“The new units we’re developing are designed to meet different commercial activity and office space needs.”
For his part RK Joinery owner Robert Macqueen added: “We are really pleased to be working with Highlands and Islands Enterprise to develop the business units in Broadford.
“We are starting construction in December with a completion date of December 2023, which will help meet the demand from local businesses which want to expand and stay in the area.”
