North Sea safety is being undermined by the growing use of foreign crews aboard offshore support vessels, claims leading offshore trade unionist Jake Molloy.
And a source on the shipping side of the industry warns that charter rates are now so low that standards of maintenance and crewing of such ships are at risk. Not only that, as losses mount, fleet owners risk collapse and some boats are putting to sea with “insufficient crew and fuel” aboard.
