Aberdeenshire timber-frame kit home specialist Scotframe could hardly have travelled further in its quest for new business.
Taking up the challenge of growing its sales overseas, the company is shipping another 30 kits to the Falklands – more than 8,000 miles from its headquarters in Inverurie – after completing previous work on the South Atlantic islands.
Scotframe recently supplied material for a new extension for the infant school in Port Stanley, the islands’ administrative centre, and kits for 30 new homes at Sapper Hill on East Falkland.
The firm intends to pitch for more contracts for future housing – as many as 150 homes – that are planned for Sapper Hill once infrastructure work is completed.
Scotframe’s ongoing supplies to the Falklands are part of a Morrison Construction project covering work on the school and new homes.
The school extension, creating a new classroom, kitchen and boiler room, was needed to accommodate more youngsters among a growing local population.
Kit homes needed to support housing pressures on the islands are sent via Grangemouth, where they are loaded onto cargo ships bound for Montevideo in Uruguay.
Scotframe is supplying kits for two and three-bedroom semi-detached homes as well as for terraced houses and flats.
