A well-known Limousin breeder from the north of Scotland has been announced as a judge for this year’s Smithfield Festival.
Martin Irvine, who rose to fame with his wife Melissa after the pair starred on BBC series This Farming Life, will judge the young stockperson of the year award at the event.
Mr Irvine, who runs the Anside herd of Limousins with his family at Braehead Farm, Drummuir, Keith, is a renowned stockman himself.
He will be tasked with judging up and coming talent in the cattle showing industry and assessing competitors who have qualified for the competition at local or regional shows.
Mr Irvine has also been asked to co-judge the college challenge competition together with NFU England and Wales livestock board chairman Charles Sercombe.
The competition, which attracts entries of teams from agricultural colleges across the UK, is predominantly a stock judging contest however competitors will also be asked to identify raw feed material and analyse silage.
Mr Irvine is not the only breeder from the north tasked with judging classes at Smithfield.
Earlier this year event organisers appointed a well-known pedigree Simmental breeder from Moray as the judge for the pedigree calf show interbeed championship and pedigree calf group of three section.
Iain Green, who runs the Corskie herd at Corskie Farm, Garmouth, Fochabers, will judge the two sections.
The Smithfield Festival takes place on November 15 and 16 at the East of England Showground in Peterborough.
