An autumn-born Charolais cross heifer took home the champion rosettes and top price at Cally Marts’ annual premier show and sale of suckled calves.
The entry, which was put forward by James McLaren of Murrayshall, Stirling, sold for £4,100 to Mrs J. Dowie, Baluskie, Girvan.
Standing reserve champion in the competition, as judged by Archie MacGregor of Allanfauld, Kilsyth, was an autumn-born Limousin heifer from John and Craig Robertson, Newton of Logierait, Pitlochry. She sold for £1,200 to H. Naylor and Son, Sandylane, Derby.
Other leading prices included £2,200 for a Limousin heifer from the Robertsons selling to I. Townsend, Highbrake House, Clitheroe, and £2,100 for another Limousin heifer from the Robertsons selling to Messrs MacBeath and Jessop, Lower Greenyards, Stirling.
