A well-known sheep farming couple were out in force at an Aberdeen supermarket to encourage shoppers to buy Scotch Lamb.
Ross and Kirsty Williams, who farm at Upper Tullochbeg near Huntly, visited a Tesco Extra store in Aberdeen to help hand out samples of lamb to consumers as part of a Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) campaign to boost sales of Scotch Lamb.
The duo, who run the Blackjack flock of pedigree Beltex sheep, were taking part in one of a series of promotional events across the country.
Mr Williams said: “I think these events are a fantastic opportunity for farmers to engage with consumers about what goes in to putting fresh, tasty Scotch Lamb on their plates.
“By giving shoppers a taste of this fantastic product, we hope to remind those who don’t regularly buy lamb what a great, versatile meat it is.”
QMS marketing controller, Suzie Carlaw, said Scotch Lamb ambassadors like the Williams couple were delivering 89 days of in-store retail activity as part of a three-month Scotch Lamb promotional campaign.
She said: “The Scottish sheep industry is justifiably proud of the Scotch Lamb they produce in Scotland. We hope that by tempting shoppers with a wee taste of this fantastic product, we can encourage families to put this versatile meat on their shopping list.
“With a firm focus on the ease of cooking delicious, nutritious mid-week family meals with Scotch Lamb PGI, we want to reinstate its status as a firm family favourite.”
