Two young farmers from the north-east set a new centre record for Blackface sheep at Thainstone.
Brother William and David Moir, of Home Farm, Cairness, Fraserburgh, set the new centre record for the breed at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ annual Michael Fair sale.
The duo are no strangers to the show and sales circuit and they regularly win rosettes and take home top prices.
They were left celebrating at the fixture when their pen of three home-bred gimmers sold to a top of £310 a head, setting a new record for Blackies at Thainstone.
William said: “They are the best gimmers Cairness has ever offered for sale.”
The gimmers are by a £5,000 Auldhouseburn sire and out of Dalchirla-bred ewes purchased at Lanark as ewe lambs. The top-priced gimmers sold to Messrs Davidson, Alford.
The Moir brothers’ celebrations did not end there and they topped the trade for Blackface breeding ewes with a pen of two three-crop ewes selling for £150 a head to Charlie McIntyre, of Upper Croft Na Garn, Boat of Garten.
Their pen of 10 Blackface cast ewes sold for £90 a head to a buyer from the Isle of Skye for further breeding.
William said: “It was a successful day.”
