A well known pair of commercial cattle showing enthusiasts triumphed at the Welsh Winter Fair this week.
Efforts by Blair Duffton and Rebecca Stuart, of Huntly and Insch, to send one of their beasts south for the event paid off when they landed the supreme champion title. This is thought to be the first time the title has gone to anyone from Scotland.
The duo were unable to attend the Welsh fixture themselves as they were busy showing cattle at the Aberdeen Christmas Classic, where they lifted the supreme title with a Limousin cross heifer named Oucha Baby. She sold for £4,000.
Their Welsh winner, which was shown by Sean Kennedy, was a 19-month-old Limousin cross bullock named Tip Top. By Powerhouse Elite and out of a Charolais cross cow, she sold weighing 640kg for £4,000 to B. and T. Kitston, Hutton, North Yorkshire.
Mr Duffton said both he and Ms Stuart were absolutely delighted with the win.
Tip Top was bred by Colin Phillips from Hereford and bought in Brecon in March for £2,300. He was shown throughout the summer and took home four first prize rosettes.
Scottish exhibitors at the Welsh Winter Fair, which takes place at the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells, are pictured celebrating following Tip Top’s success.
