A well-known Highland farming family is hosting a free beef and sheep event this week.
The event takes place at Wester Rarichie Farm in Fearn, Tain, on Thursday, from 10.30am to 3.30pm.
Organised by SAC Consulting and funded by the Universities Innovation Fund, the day will provide advice on nutrition, husbandry, breedinmg and meat eating quality.
New technologies, including drones and camera and weighing technology, will also be on show. There will also be a presentation from Sainsbury’s agriculture Philip Hambling.
SAC beef and sheep specialist, Kirsten Williams, said: “There are many steps that cattle and sheep producers can take to improve the productivity and profitability of their systems. This event will explore some of them – and also introduce new technologies which are likely to be widespread in the future.”
Wester Rarichie is one of several units run by the Whiteford family, who farm a total of 2,200 acres running an enterprise with 300 suckler cows, 1,350 breeding sheep, pigs and arable cropping.
Those wishing to attend the event are asked to register in advance by contacting SAC Consulting’s Inverness office on 01463 233266.
