An Aberdeenshire farming family topped the Dark Diamonds sale of Suffolk females at Carlisle.

Father and son duo George and Melvin Stuart, of Milltown of Birness, Ellon, topped the sale when a gimmer from their Birness flock went under the hammer for 7,500gn.

The January-2015 born gimmer is a twin by Jubilee Jackpot and out of a dam by Rhaeadr Flash Harry.

In-lamb to Limestone Legend, which is owned jointly with the Collessie flock, she sold to S. Cobbald, Acton Hall, Acton, Sudbury, Suffolk.

Next best for the Stuarts at 2,700gn was a January-2015 born Ballynacanon Commander daughter out of a dam by Meikleson Square Up. She sold, in-lamb to the 6,500gn Cavangrove Catalyst, to Jim Innes for his Strathbogie flock at Dunscroft, Huntly.

In total the Stuart family sold nine gimmers to average £2,275.

Another Aberdeenshire breeder with a consignment at the sale was Graeme Christie, who runs the Balquhain flock at Newton of Balquhain, Inverurie.

Mr Christie sold to a top of 1,000gn for a January-2015 born triplet by the 12,000gn Strathisla Stifler and out of a dam by Strathbeg Stan the Man. In-lamb with twins by the 4,800gn Roundcare Rojo, she sold to T. Houghton, 8 King Street, Sandbach, Cheshire.

Another Balquhain sale, this time for 850gn and selling to David Miskelly at Corrybrae, Kildrummy, Alford, was a Rhaedr Red Devil daughter out of a female by Strathbeg Stan the Man. She sold in-lamb with twins by the 19,000gn Muirton One Direction.

In all the Balquhain flock sold eight gimmers to average £675.94.
