A north-east consultant has accused government of causing more confusion with farm subsidy payments through the release of payment information letters this week.
Gordon McConachie, a food and farming consultant based in Savills Aberdeen office, said farmers were now receiving letters outlining details of payments made nearly six months ago.
“There’s no covering note saying this is for payments already made. People are getting confused,” said Mr McConachie.
“It’s creating another level of uncertainty. How do people know exactly what they have been paid in full and how can they check it?”
A Scottish Government spokeswoman last night confirmed letters outlining previous payments were now being sent to farmers.
She said: “Officials are continuing to work hard to resolve outstanding issues, and there is a clear focus on providing farmers and crofters with the information they need to understand what payments they have received.
“Some are now getting their letters and online users can access some information about their claims and payments.
“We rightly prioritised getting money into people’s accounts, and maximising the funds we can access from Europe, before the October 15 deadline.”
