Ayrshire breeders Jack and Grace Ramsay were left celebrating yesterday after lifting the supreme overall champion title in the Beef Shorthorn section at the Stirling Bull Sales.
It was the second time the couple, who run 30 cows at Millerston Farm, Mauchline, have lifted the title at the iconic sales at United Auctions.
Their champion was May-2015-born roan Millerston Jamboree, which stood intermediate champion previously. He is one of the first crop of calves from Meonhill Charlie Chaplin, which was bought privately. He is out of Millerston Augusta Eilidh, which is by Podehole Beefeater – the sire of the Ramsay’s last Stirling champion three years ago.
Judge George Somerville of Aardar, Dumfries, said the champion was “full of character with great balance”.
Standing reserve overall champion was the senior champion from James Porter’s long-established Uppermill herd at Lisburn, Northern Ireland.
Shown by stockman Iain Rea, January-2015-born roan Uppermill Supreme is by the 8,000gn Carrarock Chalkie and out of Uppermill Secret Supreme. The junior champion title went to July-2015-born roan Castlemount Jetliner from Duncan McDowell of Newtownards, Co. Down, Northern Ireland.
An AI son of Elliot Matrix and out of Castlemount Raeburn Zipy, Jetliner stood reserve overall in the native interbreed beef breeder class at last year’s Royal Highland Show.
Reserve in the junior section was June-2015-born roan Coldrochie Jurassic from Douglas McMillan at Moneydie Roger, Luncarty, Perth.

In the senior section, the reserve champion title went to March-2015-born Knockenjig Jetstream from David and Rosemary Dickie of Knockenjig, Sanquhar, Dumfriesshire. He is a roan son of Tofts Whisky, out of Knockenjig Foxglove Flake.

Meanwhile, both the champion and reserve rosettes in the female section went to entries from the Macadie family at Skaill, Thurso, Caithness.
