Young farmers from across the north and north-east will descend on Perth at the end of the month for the Scottish Association of Young Farmers’ Clubs (SAYFC) annual competitions weekend.
The three-day event, which takes place from Friday February 25 to Sunday February 26, features an annual quiz, carpet bowls, senior speechmaking and football competitions.
SAYFC will also use the weekend as platform to conduct interviews for the final of the prestigious Member of the Year contest, and to select 53 members for international travel initiatives.
New group experiences for members this year include trips to China, the Calgary Stampede in Canada and the chance to sail from Portsmouth to France.
Young farmers in attendance will also get the chance to visit one of Scotland’s most highly acclaimed commercial beef and sheep units when Mains of Mause at Blairgowrie, which is run by Peter, Pat and Murray Alexander, swings open its gates to SAYFC.
Alice Connor from rural insurer NFU Mutual, which is sponsoring the competitions weekend, said: “UK Farming is at the heart of our business and NFU Mutual has career paths for SAYFC members who want to work closely with the agricultural and rural community. “With lots of exciting opportunities across Scotland in our agency network and our regional office, SAFYC member’s career aspirations can be realised with us.”
SAYFC national chairman Stuart Jamieson, who farms at Home Farm, Pitlurg, Slains, Aberdeenshire, said: “We are very excited about this new partnership with NFU Mutual and look forward to welcoming them to Perth.
“The weekend is a great opportunity to bring together members from right across Scotland as they compete, socialise, learn and make new friends. Whether members take part in a competition, attend the farm visit or join us for one or both of the dances, the weekend is always a highlight in our annual calendar.”
