A Nairnshire student in forestry management has received a prestigious award in recognition of his academic achievement.

Ewan Batchelor, 32, a final year BSc Sutainable Forest Management student from Cawdor, was presented with a trophy and cheque from real estate company Savills during the ceremony at Inverness College UHI.

Judges commended his outstanding academic report in the field of sustainable land management.

Mr Batchelor, who is completing his degree part-time while working at private forest management company, Tillhill Forestry, proposed a strategy for the future management of a mixed-use rural estate.

Mr Batchelor said: “I am very grateful for the recognition from such a prestigious organisation.

“As someone who has always been captivated by the natural environment – be it forest, loch, mountain or coast – it’s brilliant to be able to work and study in a field I am both fascinated with and passionate about.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Scottish School of Forestry. There is a strong connection with the forestry industry in the region and high regard for the students it produces. To receive the Savills prize makes it all the more special.”
