Texel crosses dominate Royal Northern Spring Show sheep contest

The champion pair of prime hoggs came from the medium-weight section and were exhibited by David Black, of Minard, Kirriemuir, who showed the reserve pen last year.
The Texel cross Beltex hoggs, which weighed 44.5kg each were bred by Roddy Thomson at Westpark, Aberfeldy, and bought at Forfar in September. Mr Black finishes about 250 sheep every year and also buys ewe hoggs to sell for breeding.
A pen of three Texel cross ewe hoggs took the breeding sheep championship for Messrs Sutherland, Sibmister and Stainland Farms, Thurso.
