Beef producers from the Highlands and islands will descend on Dingwall next week for the mart’s annual show and sale of bulls.
Dingwall and Highland Marts manager Ian Tolmie hailed a strong entry for the fixture, which takes place on Wednesday, April 19.
The pre-sale show, which kicks off at 9am, will be judged by Russell Mill of Forsie Farm, near Thurso.
Mr Mill will be tasked with judging 36 entries comprising 14 Aberdeen-Angus, nine Limousin, seven Simmental, two Charolais, two Shorthorn, one Saler and one British Blue.
“There’s a decent entry and I’m very happy with the quality that we have forward from noted breeders,” said Mr Tolmie.
He said the sale, which follows the show at 11am, would also include a number of herd dispersals.
These include the first part and majority of the dispersal of cattle from J.R. MacKintosh and Co. of Blackpark Farm, Nairn, and the dispersal of cattle from Messrs Rose’s Feabait Farm at Muir of Ord. There will also be a dispersal of Angus MacKay’s commercial beasts from Scaristavore on the Isle of Harris, as well as various cattle entries from farmers across the region.
At least year’s fixture a top price of 4,800gn was paid for the Aberdeen-Angus champion from the Henderson family at Culrain Mains, Ardgay.
Culrain Evor, by the 12,000gn Hallington Evolution, sold to Angus MacKay at Scaristavore.
The supreme champion title in the pre-sale show when to a Simmental from Druid Temple Farms, Inverness.
Described by judge Harold Murray, of Meadowbank, Forglen, Turriff, Dellfield Freddy, by the 17,000gn Hiltonstown Dominic, sold for 3,600gn to J. H. and S. M. Anderson, The Cloy, Fortrose.
