Scotland’s land commissioners are taking to the road over the next 11 months for a series of community events across the country.

The Scottish Land Commission, which officially opened at the start of the month, said the events were being organised to give people the chance to find out more about the work of the organisation.

It said the events would also give people the chance to meet the new commissioners and discuss priorities for land reform.

Commission chairman Andrew Thin said: “The commissioners and I are really keen to get out and about to speak to people, in both urban and rural Scotland, to let them know more about the work of the commission and to also find out what they think the priorities for land reform should be.

“By holding monthly events throughout the year from Stornoway to Dumfries, Inverurie to Clydebank, we hope to meet as many people as possible. I would encourage everyone to attend and make the most of the opportunity to meet with commissioners to discuss the land reform agenda. It is important that all voices are heard and we work together to make the most of our land.”

The new commission is based in Inverness and has been set up as part of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2016.

It is tasked with reviewing law and policy and making recommendations to government ministers on any matter relating to Scotland’s land.

There are five land commissioners and a tenant farming commissioner – Bob McIntosh.

Chairman Andrew Thin is one of the five land commissioners. The others are: Professor David Adams; Lorne MacLeod; Sally Reynolds; and Megan MacInnes.

The first commission event in the north and north-east takes place on Thursday May 25 from 7pm at Thainstone Mart, Inverurie.

One is planned for the Isle of Skye on Thursday February 22, 2018, from 7pm at The Finglas Centre in Portree, while another is planned on the Isle of Lewis on Thursday March 22, 2018, from 7pm at the Bridge Community Centre in Stornoway.

All events are free to attend and more information is available online at www.landcommission.gov.scot.
