The main milk buyer in the north and north-east yesterday delivered the unwelcome news of a farmgate milk price cut.
Muller will cut its standard non-aligned price by 0.5p to 26.19p a litre on June 9.
The company said it had held prices in recent months despite a reduction in the market value of farmgate milk as a result of increased production and reduced dairy commodity values.
Muller agriculture director Rob Hutchison said: “We have been monitoring supply and our direct supply volume continues to be very strong and significantly ahead of the same period last year.
“We have worked to minimise the scale of this price reduction while responding to the balance of supply and demand driving the current market value for milk.”
