A Blackface ewe hogg from Ian Hunter of Dalchirla smashed records at United Auctions when it went through the Stirling ring for £12,000.
The new record price was paid by Billy McFarlane and his sons, Alfie and Joe, from Drumgrange at Patna, Ayr. Mr McFarlane later described the ewe hogg as one of the best females he’d seen in a long time.
“She has everything going for her, good hair, good legs, great shape and tremendous character,” he said.
Ian Hunter said he had been blown away by the interest in his animal which is off the £10,000 Nunnerie tup bought in 2015 as a lamb at Dalmally and out of a ewe by a £30,000 Aitkenhead.
The previous record for a Blackface female was £8,000 for an in-lamb female from Ewen Macmillan, Lurg.
Hugh and Alan Blackwood, Auldhouseburn, surpassed their previous record of £2,000 for a pen of ewe hoggs when they received £2,200 from Sam Wallace, Northern Ireland. This pen of three hoggs consisted of two off a £160,000 Dalchirla with the third sired by a £50,000 Crossflatt.
Meanwhile Scotch mule dry hoggs sold to a top of £136 per head for a pen of 26 consigned by Townfoot (Midlock) purchased by D Morriosn, Dalwyne.
Mule ewe hoggs with lambs at foot sold to a top of £200 from Easter Bucklyvie. Texel cross ewe hoggs with lambs at foot topped at £200 from Airthrey Kerse.
