Three budding young chefs have been announced as finalists for the new Aberdeen-Angus Scotch Beef Award.
The contest, which is run jointly by the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society and Quality Meat Scotland (QMS), was launched earlier this year to coincide with the World Angus Forum coming to Scotland.
The three finalists were selected by judges – chef Jak O’Donnell of The Sisters Restaurant, Vanessa Dayley of Braehead Cook School and TV chef and food writer Paul Gayler – following a challenge at The Cook School Scotland.
The trio are: Hayley Bruce of McBains Catering, which is based at Fortrose and Rosemarkie Golf Club; Calum Moncrieff of the Sheraton Hotel in Edinburgh; and Thomas MacNeill of Fife College.
They were asked to create two Aberdeen-Angus Scotch Beef canapes, which will be served at the World Angus Forum gala dinner, and a main course dish feature Aberdeen-Angus Scotch Beef.
The winner will be unveiled at the gala dinner on Monday, June 26.
They will win a prize to travel to Dubai to experience a once-in-a-lifetime trip and opportunity to work with acclaimed Scottish chef Tristin Farmer, while the other two finalists will enjoy work experience at award-winning The Sisters restaurants in Glasgow’s Jordanhill and Kelvingrove.
