Royal Highland Show 2017: Read all the results from the sheep section

Here’s a round up of the sheep results from the Royal Highland Show 2017.

Charollais: Willie and Carole Ingram, Logie Durno, Pitcaple, Inverurie, with a two-crop ewe by Riverdale Noble, out of a Southam ewe bought for 1,800gn.

Reserve – Willie and Carole Ingram’s home-bred gimmer, by the male champion, Rhaeadr Orlando, a tup bought for 5,000gn at Worcester two years ago, which also won the breed championship at last year’s Highland. She is out of a home-bred ewe.

North Country Cheviot Park: Roderick Runciman, Allanshaws, Galashiels, with a three-crop ewe on her first show outing, by Allanshaws Panther – a home-bred ram by Felnhen Jaguar. She is out of a home-bred ewe, one of 700 in the flock.

Reserve – Roderick Runciman’s three-shear ram, Stobshiels Star, bought at Lockerbie two years ago for £1,000. He stood first at Kelso Show last year.

Suffolk: Jim Innes, Dunscroft, Huntly, with a January-born ewe lamb by Strathbogie A Kind of Magic – a home-bred ram which was sold for 6,000gn at Stirling, with a share retained. She is out of a ewe which was bought at the Deveronvale dispersal.

Reserve -Mr and Mrs B. Nicolson, The Knock, Duns, Berwickshire, with ‘Roxy’, a gimmer which was bought as a ewe lamb for 5,800gn from the Roundacre flock. She is by Deveronside Doodlebug, and out of a ewe by Cairness Classic Fyvie.

Blackface: Malcolm Coubrough, Hartside, Lamington, Biggar, with a one-crop ewe by a £20,000 Midlock sire, out of a ewe by Auldhouseburn Bolt. She stood reserve female at the show last year and was inter-breed sheep champion at Lesmahagow last month.

Reserve – Troloss Farms, Elvanfoot, Biggar, with a gimmer by a £2,200 Allanfauld, out of a ewe by a £10,000 Connachan. Brought out by shepherd Joe Cockburn, she also stood first at LiveScot last year.

Blue Texels: Paul Tippetts and Christine Williams, Lodge Hill Farm, Park Lane, Shifnal, with the record price Blue Texel ram, Joes Alvin, which was bought for 18,000gn at Carlisle last year. Sired by a Sams tup, he is stock ram for the 25-ewe Hackney flock.

Reserve – Kevin Watret, Northfield Park, Annan, with a one-crop ewe bought from Matthew Jones, and now part of the 20-ewe Solway View flock. This is the first time the flock has been shown.

Border Leicester: David, Ian and Jack Walker, Laigh Alticane, Pinwherry, Girvan, with a two-crop ewe from their 28-ewe flock. On her first show outing, she is by Atok Atomic, out of a ewe by Knockglass Cruiser.

Reserve – Duncan Whyte, Whitelee Gate, Newton Mearns, with Clola Double Deal, a shearling ram that was bought for £2,000 from Jimmy Douglas. Sired by Muirmouth Real Deal, he was on his first show outing.

Commercial: Andrew Baillie, Carstairs Mains, Carstairs, Lanark, with a two-crop Millenium Bleu cross Texel ewe, shown with her pair of ewe lambs, sired by the Beltex tup, Mortons Apache.

Reserve – James Orr, Foodie Farm, Cupar, with a March-born Texel cross ewe lamb, sired by an Easterseat ram.

Lleyn: John Kingan, Laneside Farm, New Abbey, Dumfries, with Laneside Fisher, a home-bred shearling ram by a Johnstone-bred sire, out of a home-bred ewe. This is Mr Kingan’s first breed championship at the Highland, having won several reserves.

Reserve – John and Rachel Geldard and sons, Charles and Richard, Whitbarrow View, Middle Foulshaw, Kendal, with a two-shear ram which was bought as a shearling from Will Williams at Ross-on-Wye.

Hebridean: Mrs Victoria Mason, Sycamore House, Heatley Lane, Nantwich, Cheshire, with Sycamore Inverlochy, a shearling ram by Longmorn Charlie, out of Sycamore Ggael. This was a first championship at the event for the 10-ewe flock.

Reserve – Jack and Morna Cuthbert, Ardoch House, Fossoway, Kinross, with Ardoch Elouise, a home-bred gimmer by Ronasvoe Macspok, out of Gillbank Lizzie.

Ryeland: Mrs Susan Bryden, Broomwell, Lochmaben, with Broomwell Wallander, a shearling ram by Broomwell Uther Pendragon, out of a Hayton ewe. He was champion at Lesmahagow and Cumberland.

Reserve – James and Colin Arthur, Greenaton, Carnwath, with Wee Olly, a home-bred shearling by Keirhead Vinnie, out of a ewe by the past Highland Show champion, Broomwell Supernatural.

North Country Cheviot Hill: John, Winnie, Michael and Lillias Elliot, Woodside, Yetholm, Kelso, with a three-crop ewe by Armadale Maclaey, a tup bought at Lairg. She was second to the champion at last year’s Highland.

Reserve – John, Winnie, Michael and Lillias Elliot, with Brackside Swank, a three-shear ram that was bought at Lairg last year, sired by Attonburn Muscle Man. The Elliots run 1,000 ewes, including 620 pure Cheviots.

Bleu du Maine: John and Marjory Vile, Haydon House, Taunton, with a gimmer bought privately from the Rumwell flock, and brought out by stockman Simon Norman. She was champion and reserve interbreed at Bath and West this year.

Reserve – Percy Tait, Broughton Manor, Mill Lane, Worcester, with Randalstown Nugget, a two-shear ram by Hastings Viper, out of a Randalstown ewe. He was interbreed champion at Stafford Show this year.

Berrichon: Mrs Frances Barbour, Newark, Sanquhar, Dumfries, with Newark Nike, a home-bred three-crop ewe, one of 40 ewes in the flock. Sired by Rakefoot Jacobite, she is out of a home-bred ewe. This was the third breed championship at the Highland for Mrs Barbour.

Reserve – R.A. and M.A. Holtom and Son, Park Farm Cottage, Meriden, Coventry, with a shearling bought as a lamb at Carlisle from the Windrush flock, and jointly owned with R. and J. Bett. He is by Headlands One in a Million.

Cheviot: Billy Common, Crossdykes Farm, Lockerbie, with Maneside Viscount, a four-shear ram that was bought at Lockerbie for £5,200, two years ago. Sired by Potholm Chance, he stood second in his class last year.

Reserve – Billy Common’s home-bred gimmer, by Crossdykes Major, out of a home-bred ewe. Mr Common was helped out in the showring by son Murray.

Jacob: Gordon Connor and Scott Dalrymple, Dun Mor, Bridgend, Linlithgow, with the three-shear ram, Dun-Mor Ace, by Edengale Harlum. He was champion at the Great Yorkshire and reserve at the Highland last year.

Reserve – Adam Christie, Birchfield, Glass, Huntly, with a ewe lamb by Dun-Mor Antonio, out of Pentre Candie.

Bluefaced Leicester Coloured: M.R. Thornborrow and Sons, Easter Dawyck, Stobo, Peebles, with a two-crop ewe, one of 35 in the flock. Sired by F10 Penhill, she is out of a Cottage-bred ewe by Z31 Old Hemley. Inter-breed champion at Biggar as a gimmer, she provided the Thornborrow family with their first breed championship at the Highland.

Reserve – Jamie Pirie, Blarnavaid Farm, Drymen, with a home-bred tup lamb by Highberries Hotshot, out of a ewe by C8 Highberries. A first prize winner at Gargunnock, she is from Jamie’s 25-ewe flock which was established eight years ago when he received two as a Christmas present.

Hampshire Down: Richard Brand and Sons, East Fortune Farm, North Berwick, with a home-bred shearling, sired by East Fortune Balfour and out a Wattisfield ewe. He is heading to the breed’s national show and sale at Stratford next week.

Reserve – Richard Brand and Sons’ December-born ewe lamb, an AI daughter of Owlsbury Wonderam, out of a home-bred ewe. The Brands also won the male and female champion last year at the Highland.

Swaledale: Stanley and Pat Brogden, Helbeck Farm, Brough, Kirkby Stephen, with a home-bred shearling ram, by Kisdon Jaegerbomb, out of a ewe by Buttrigg Limelight. He is planned for sale later in the year.

Reserve – Mark and Fiona Ewbank, Intake Farm, Middlesmoor, Harrogate, with a one-crop ewe by a £5,000 Greyrigghall tup, out of a ewe by the £12,000 Aygill Bonanza. She was first last year at Tanhill Spring Show.

Texel: Robbie Wilson, North Dorlaithers, Turriff, with a home-bred gimmer by the 16,000gn Glenside Willy Nilly, out of a ewe by the 60,000gn Teiglum Tornado. She was on her first show outing.

Reserve – Robert Laird, Cambwell, Biggar, with a home-bred two-crop ewe which stood reserve at Lesmahagow, by the 5,000gn Strathbogie Usher, out of a ewe by Cambwell Laird. The dam has now produced six first prize winners at the Highland.

British Rouge: Percy Tait, Broughton Manor, Broughton Hackett, Worcester, with Knighton Sugarbabe, a home-bred gimmer by a home-bred ram that was sold to Malcolm Reid and then used on loan. She is out of Knighton Kinky Kitten, a daughter of a past Royal Show champion.

Reserve – Percy Tait’s three-crop ewe which won the breed championship here last year, Knighton Nora Batty. A daughter of Munday Meatloaf, she was brought out by shepherd Will Price.

Bluefaced Leicester Traditional: R.A. McClymont and Son, Kirkstead, Yarrow, with a two-shear ram, jointly owned by Philiphaugh Estates and bought at Kelso last year from John Dykes for £3,200. Sired by a Red Cottage tup, he was on his first show outing.

Reserve – Joe and Mary Turner, Kildalloig, Campbeltown, with a home-bred gimmer, by Derwan Las D002, out of a ewe by a Middle Dukesfield tup. She was reserve female champion at last year’s show, while her dam was female champion in 2011.

North of England Mule: Robin and Martyn Archer, Carry House, Wark, Hexham, with a ewe lamb by Carry House Jackpot J2, which was sold for £14,000 at Hawes to Riddings, and a half share bought back. Planned for sale at Hexham in September, she is out of a Northumberland Blackface ewe, bred at High Staward.

Reserve – Philip Elliot, Bank House, Lamonby, Penrith, with a two-crop ewe, bred at Redburn and sired by Redburn G6. Bought out the champion pen at Hexham three years ago, she was shown nursing her Zwartbles cross twin lambs at foot.

Shetland: Ian and Lesley Carnegie, Broomhill, Rickarton, Stonehaven, with a three-crop St Baldreds-bred ewe, bought privately as a lamb. She is by St Baldreds Nevil and out of an Island ewe.

Reserve – Ian and Lesley Carnegie’s home-bred shearling, Raedykes Solomon, by a St Baldreds ram. He was best lamb last year.

Scotch Mule: Iain Minto, Townhead Farm, Dolphinton, with a home-bred gimmer, by Townhead Warburton, which is a son of a Penhill tup. Out of a Craigdarroch ewe, she won at Biggar and Peebles last year as a ewe lamb.

Reserve – J. Wight and Son, Midlock, Crawford, with a one-crop ewe that was breed champion last year as a gimmer. Sired by a home-bred tup that was sold at Kelso for £13,500, she is out of a home-bred ewe.

Zwartbles: Ally Baird, Greystone Cottage, Dunblane, with Greystone Destiny, a gimmer by Greystone Alan, out of a Tardoes ewe. She is a full sister to last year’s breed champion.

Reserve – Nicola Henderson, Whitehouse Farm Cottage, Touch, Stirling, with Killymallaght Coolio, a two-shear ram bought privately as a lamb, by Broomfield Ben, out of Killymallaght Twilight. He was male champion at last year’s Scottish National show at Doune and Dunblane.

Beltex: Richard Wood, Kingledores, Broughton, Biggar, with Kingledores Betty Boo, a gimmer by Clary Ablaze, out of Kingledores Starlight. She was champion at the National Show as a ewe lamb and her dam is also a past National Show winner.

Reserve – Paul Tippetts and Christine Williams, Lodge Hill Farm, Park Lane, Shifnal, with a home-bred Hackney ram lamb, by the record price Beltex ram, Topflight Al Pacino, out of a home-bred ewe by an imported ram. He is heading to the Premier sale at Carlisle in August.
